Lonely?

There are times when we find ourselves alone. Those times are judged not by how we survive it but by how we relish in it. We are born alone, we walk alone, and we will die alone for no other can be in our minds with us. For me this is a deeply held belief, a mantra, a reality check.

Oh, we all have the voice inside us that we talk to so we’re never really alone. The two people in your head are always together, like twins sharing the same thoughts. Just the same, life will leave us in a state where we are alone. From inside our heads, away from the world – outside of it, the world is just a game. When I am alone I am the only one in existence, the only reality. The rest of it? The rest of it can burn and I’m bringing marshmallows.

Let It Burn

I’ve walked a long way and for a long time, across scorched earth. Keeping myself warm on the dying embers of the world around me. My voice and I have run amok, just to be there to watch the fire burn. It doesn’t  matter what’s burning, it doesn’t matter what some think it’s worth. Burn it must because it’s just a game. From this side of the fire I’ve never met anyone else. I’ve been alone here for eternity.

I’ve been searching for someone, anyone but gave up, fearing there were none to be found. Here, in this place, a person has to have matches and be ready to make smores. Entertainment is free if you’re a pyro. Let it burn. Still, I found someone here amongst the embers and flames.

Now there is a third voice. I no longer walk completely alone. It might kill me but I like the company here among the embers.

Who in your world sees the embers of it burning? Who in your world would light the world on fire to keep you warm? Who in your world could banish the cold and lonely, drink a toast with you and watch it burn? Who in your world is that third voice, faint as it might some days seem? No third voice? Let it burn.

Broken Promises

Today’s thought for the day and musical interlude:

The Nurse and The Wolf

https://i2.wp.com/th04.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2011/149/a/0/wolf_girl_by_death_by_emotion-d3hil9y.jpg
"Be quiet now," said an old Nurse to a child sitting on her
lap. "If you make that noise again I will throw you to the Wolf."

Now it chanced that a Wolf was passing close under the window
as this was said. So he crouched down by the side of the house
and waited. "I am in good luck to-day," thought he. "It is sure
to cry soon, and a daintier morsel I haven't had for many a long
day." So he waited, and he waited, and he waited, till at last
the child began to cry, and the Wolf came forward before the
window, and looked up to the Nurse, wagging his tail. But all the
Nurse did was to shut down the window and call for help, and the
dogs of the house came rushing out. "Ah," said the Wolf as he
galloped away,

"Enemies promises were made to be broken."

How many times each day do you listen to an ‘enemy’ and believe their promises? Even “between 620 and 560 BCE” such wisdom was common among those that cared to know things.

Worse than that, we tell ourselves lies and pretend that people made promises based on what we think they should have done.

The other moral here is to know your enemies…. especially the one you see in the mirror.

Now, I know that all you readers have your own musical tastes, but this is what is on my music player today

A Poem Or Knot

I invented a poem, or knot

It was here on the table

now it’s not

fell off behind the bottle of Scotch

https://i2.wp.com/m5.paperblog.com/i/52/527368/how-to-be-happy-monday-blues-L-dEx2n3.jpeg

That poem was top notch

Seventy lines of prose

You’d think I could find it

You’d think I was able

Trust me, I have looked

I called the publisher

That poem was booked

But that’s how it goes

I have been published

I am also a liar

When it comes to writing

What was I saying?

So, I call this Monday

Nothing exciting

Just forced into this shit

Because Sunday ran away

Happy Monday

Some Questions For Everyone

I’ve seen posts of questions for atheists and posts of questions for theists. They are entertaining to a point and I think done with honesty but I don’t think that they actually look at the world in a way that makes progress. So I’ve thought about this for a while, and then some more. I thought it useless but then I thought of it a bit more… you get the idea.

https://i0.wp.com/www.aaronartprints.org/images/Paintings/6072.jpg

The gist of it is this, I have some questions and I thought perhaps sharing them here would profit me some new ideas. Hopefully, dear readers, you’ll be able to shed some light on these in the comments.

  1. If evolution is not true, why do mammals all share a common body plan – five digits, tube design, etc. Did the god run out of ideas or simply not have enough imagination to make more animals like the kangaroo and platypus.
  2. I’ll ask about the flood myth but this goes for a lot of things. Why do believers have to invent their own ‘bible science’ which is in contention with very smart people that spend their entire lives dedicated to the science of understanding geology?  Why is it necessary for believers to understand the world in terms of their holy book? Can’t they simply join the rest of humanity in the search for answers and learn from what is discovered?
  3. I have yet to hear a response to the Steve Project that makes sense. Does anyone have one?
  4. Speaking of monotheism, if the god created everything where does evil come from? No, don’t bother with free will for the angels chose to disobey and they were not given free will. Which leads us to number 5.
  5.  The god of Abraham has failed at the things he set out to do in spectacular fashion. On top of that, outside of natural disasters, every time he exacts punishment on humans it is done at the hands of other humans. How is this supportive of an omnipotent and omniscient god? Clearly all that foreknowledge has not helped the god of Abraham create anything that would succeed as far as we know. The god of Abraham is a failure… which leads us to number 6.
  6. There are those that believe in gods. They have failed to provide credible evidence for their belief. What do you believe and how do you KNOW it to be true? If you can’t know it to be true why do you believe it. Those that believe the big bang created the universe are encouraged to explain their answer to this question.
  7. It appears that the human like for sweet tasting things is biological. Where do you derive your morality from? Why? What evidence do you have to show this was a correct decision?
  8. There are those that believe in an afterlife. Their world views hold that many will be tortured forever. How do you justify this belief? How do you justify the infinite torture of someone else? For those that do not believe in an afterlife, how do you justify not helping those in need? Well, even believers, how do you justify not helping those in need?
  9. Have you thought your world view out to it’s logical end point? If you have, what is the meaning of existence? What purpose does this life serve? How do you reconcile your answer to this question with your answer to question 8?
  10. What is you most favored music genre?
  11.  How do you know that the world is real? How do you know that these questions are real? How do you know that your lover/spouse/SO is real? Given the answer to this question, how can you know if the Christian Jesus was real?
  12. Given the general nastiness of the gods of monotheism, why would you worship them? Why would you worship anything or anyone? What is worthy of your worship and dedication?

I’ll stop there. That’s enough for now. I look forward to the answers, both theological and not.

What If There Is A God?

There are people that do not understand my position on belief. Perhaps it is time to explain it again.

Atheism simply defined is, “Someone who LACKS BELIEF in a god or gods.”  So as an atheist I would never claim to KNOW that there are no gods.  In this context atheism is nothing more than the rejection of the proposition, “a god or god’s exist.”  It is not the positive statement, “there is no god.”

https://myatheistlife.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/8ec7d-atheists-live.png

As an atheist I agree completely. I further posit that the probability of a god is zero. Further, if a god exists and that god is like the description of the god of Abraham that god is not worthy of my desire, accolades, or worship. If there is a god that exists as described by deists it does not care what words I use nor who I sleep with and how. If a god exists and judges me by moral means then it will judge me based on the morality I know rather than that offered in the offensive books of human made religions. If a god exists and has the fortitude to judge me at all, it can judge me by my morality and treatment of my fellow animals. If it indeed has the power of judgement, it can judge me on how I’ve treated others. If indeed there is a god who has any need or want to judge me, it can judge me as I have lived or it can do as it wishes but I will not worship it. For a being to acquire my worship requires what no god of human design or understanding can do. The YHWH-ists claim their god is omniscient yet that god has failed to meet the criteria I set forth. For those that think I am not permitted to set forth the criteria I am open to them showing me their god so that their god can explain to me personally what the rules are. I’m not saying I will accept any old god and his rules, but if there is argument about my understanding it will require the actual god to explain to me the differences. Without that there is no such thing as free will and I claim my right to free will now and always. Let some god who wants to be king explain any differences to me personally. I need no middle man arguments. Any god who would deem me unworthy of such effort is unworthy of my praise and worship and will likely garner my desire to kill it. If that is not clear enough for the theist, then I can use more words.

God Is Like Me … Well, He Wants To Be

Yeah, that’s a bold statement. Perhaps you’ll read on and hear me out

You see, god and I are a lot alike. I’m talking about the god of Abraham, the god of monotheism.

Other gods are a bit more imaginative than the god of Abraham. You see, because I do not know how the universe was formed I cannot know why I am here except to accept the words of others about their god or make up my own reasons. I can find no meaning in existing except what I can conjure up or copy from others. There is no morality but what I find palatable. The god of Abraham finds himself in exactly the same position if we are to believe what we are told by the religions of monotheism. Their god has always existed without predecessor, without community, without explanation. He cannot know morality except that which makes his own mind happy. How lonely he must be that he needed to create little friends on Earth. How childish he has been to have destroyed all life that did not openly worship him. How monstrous he has been to kill without care or remorse.

I too have no place to find meaning except what I personally ascribe to existence. I do not  know for what purpose this existence happens to be. I cannot find morality except that which helps me to survive and does not make me feel bad.

Rather unfortunately for the god of Abraham, he is not quite as good, gifted, nor fortunate as I. He is slated to be stuck in his existence for eternity, long after any of his creations will be around to worship him. He is unchanging and at the whim of some grand plan that he cannot alter except to destroy for he created failed life despite knowing it would not worship him. This he is unable to change as is evidenced by my atheism. He is said to be all powerful yet is powerless against words of doubt. I will die, you will die, the Earth will die, the universe will die. There will be the god of Abraham, alone again, unable to create what he most wants – or so it seems. He is powerless to change his condition. I am not. I can be happy without millions worshipping my every word. If they do not like me they need not live in fear for I am kind and just and have compassion – I will not kill them for the simple act of not liking me, yet the god of Abraham has no choice. His tyrannical fits were part of the grand plan, known to him before he set out to create friends to worship him.

I’m better than that. If the god of Abraham had a choice, he’d want to be more like me. When all is said and done at least I can kill myself and end the infinite boredom. The god of Abraham does not even have this option. He is powerless over the most basic events. He can’t even know why he exists except to make up a story. He is most likely deranged from the loneliness and responsibility. He seeks love but demands it of those he controls… ensuring that it never really happens. This is all part of his grand plan, one that he is powerless to change because he knew it would happen this way before he started.

I am better than such a god. If such a god exists… I pity it and want it destroyed in the same breath.
