Are Monkeys More Moral Than Humans?

Here’s a short one but it should stay with you for a very long time. Think about it for a few minutes then look at this picture again. Then write me a 200+ word comment on why, if you think animals are not conscious and sentient.

For those believers who think animals are not sentient or conscious because they have no soul. I want you to stare at this picture until it is so ingrained in your mind it will be your last thought in life.

Thinking out loud

Are Monkeys More Moral Than Humans? Are Monkeys More Moral Than Humans?

Nah, us humans are not gonna do what these monkeys did.

    • Hell, if you offer someone a raise they’d shock their friends for it

        Yes, that!

      • Sad, but true. About the raise.

        • Yes, we’re all pretty selfish most of the time.

          • Yeah. People are the most cut throat when it comes to $$.

            • We are a violent species. Learning not to be so violent will and has cost a lot of lives.

              • It’s so true! I mean, we’ve come a long way (In the West) from witch burning and hanging children thieves, etc. but yes, humans are still a violent species indeed. Most of them just channel that in the films/shows/games they watch or play. Or laugh about someone getting hit by a train. :/

                • channelling violence is something we should do with care and thought for the future…. swinging a hammer making shelters is better than other options for instance 🙂

                  • Oh my gosh that’s so true!!

  1. Should send this photo to that bastard William Lane Craig.

    • Like he’d have any compassion at all. My bet is that he’s gay and fighting to not be.

      • You know, you may well have a point there, MAL.

        • He knows he is wrong and keeps at it as if it will set him free some how. There is undercurrents to all prolific apologists… I think is is a strong desire to simply be held by a strong man

  2. Monkeys have no sense of morality though they may behave reciprocally.

What makes you think human beings have a sense of morality? People only behave for fear of the consequences.

Creationists have been insisting for years that they are not like monkeys, and I guess they’re right.

    • Oh WOW that’s awesome

      Ignostic Dave,

  3. That’s a nice question this Sagan asks. I think we can more or less predict the outcome when we look at the Millgram experiment and Dr Zimbardo’s prison experiment. We would probably not do so well. Keep on blogging in a free world – The False Prophet

  4. I hope I can live up to the love and care my cats shower me with. They sit with me at my desk regardless of what I watch, they share my bed regardless of how much I toss and turn and bounce them around, and they go from Room to room with me regardless if I am paying less attention to them than I should. They are great examples of how to love. Hugs

But if animals have a soul, then why not plants, bacteria and rocks? I am not saying all those things have no soul, or even no consciousness. It seems to me the question of: where do you draw the line? Aren’t we better off just dropping the notion of a soul?

On the other hand, is having a soul not just the definition of having a conscience? 😉

This philosophical point is either stupid or hypocritical.

If you want to test if humans would behave the same as monkeys, then just run the experiment and find out.

But if the experiment is too cruel to run on humans, to starve them for 2 weeks, then it was too cruel to run on animals too. How dare the evil group of scientist who ran this unethical experiment judge anyone else.

  5. Wow! The experiment certainly yielded a thought provoking conclusion! No Sunday school lessons ingrained in these little guys. I just hate thinking of the psychological torment they would’ve gone though. 😦

    • That is a bit of a problem that can’t be ignored. I’ve not found more information about it so far but the fact that under duress these are the results. It’s enough to make you worry for humanity.

      • Yes. This is true.
