  1. …usually by assigning these bits to be literal (and important to the doctrine) and those bits to be metaphorical (and not so important but open to various interpretations) without any method other than faith to determine which is which. If a believer is asked how she knows to differentiate which is which independent of her faith, we see the problem: there is no method. And that’s why her religious beliefs are like selecting food at a buffet, taking what is wanted while leaving what is problematic.
